Races to Rehab……
In June of 2018, Owner of Landy Classifieds Shane B McGrath will be attending and competing in the Finke Desert Challenge.
Over the years I have been involved in Motor racing, Rallying, Karting and Enduro Riding, my Father Bernard Noel McGrath was a Rally champion in the 50’s competing year after year in the Redex Trials with the likes of Gelignite Jack, so racings in the blood one would say.
In 2007 I travelled about 15000ks through England and Europe on Board a BMW 1200 GS and here in Australia have travelled extensively aboard various types of bikes Dt 400, KDX250 and Honda Dominator, for the Finke this year bike I will be competing on a KTM 500 Exc, for me its a personal endeavour, one, to raise funds for people with disabilities and also to get out of my comfort zone and do something that challenges me, I love speed, I know the risks involved but at my age im more into calculated risks.
That being said, my mate had been involved in a car accident approximately 12 months ago, ICU for two weeks and hospitalised for 10 months, his recovery a true testament of his strength, courage and fight, he’s wheel chair bound, but daily gaining a lot of independance back into his life, he works two days a week at Red Bull Racing, hospital visits and Rehab on a daily and weekly basis, he shows temoundous strength in fullfilling his dream of walking again, In fact, he is but with full mobility, with hard work and grit determination he will succeed to reach that level, but for now Robert requires carers morning, lunch and night, Carers are a godsend, without them life would be very challenging.
I love the man, and I can only try to understand the frustrations he may have from time to time, he’s always kept his dry humour which sometimes would be classed as offensive these days, a Father of four and Grandfather of three, money is an issue, disability pension doesnt cut it at times and financially its difficult, so Im asking Facebook People and friends to donate what they can, I will be starting a Go Fund me campaign, but it will be for Go Fund Robert Clark in the next few months.
Im sure some of us had friends and family with illnesses or disabilities, little bit of money can go a long way, please donate.
The greatest problem most disabled people have is Money. A disabled person with a job or an organisation with money is in a far stronger position.
Organisations of disabled people need funds to:
- run campaigns
- support members
- finance the group’s activities.
Many institutions give funds to organisations to help them run projects and activities.
However, Im going to ask people and organizations to donate to very close friend of mine that was involved in a car accident over 12 months ago, in the next 2 months im going to run a Go fund me campaign to
